Rock Painting Event with PCPC Children

Valentine’s Week Rock Painting at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. Enjoy this story about what inspired this from a PCPC preschool director, Meg.

“Each year, we field questions about how PCPC Preschool handles Valentine’s Day — understandably so! I, too, have wandered the aisles at Target filled with all things heart-shaped and with varying shades of pink and red. We do not allow outside valentines to be distributed in our classes, and that is true this year, as well.

However, this year something sweet and serendipitous happened when our 3A class went on a nature walk. From Ms. Lindsey:

“One of our little friends had been wishing for a nature walk for several days in a row. Tuesday was the perfect day to make it happen, with the sun shining and the temperature just right for a stroll. We can see the lovely courtyard right outside our classroom window, so that seemed like a great place to start our walk.

As we made our way down the steps and around the corner we came to the fountain, which we noticed was filled with painted rocks resting in the water. In admiration, the children asked if they could take these rocks home to show their families, and I didn’t see why not. But life is about reciprocity and I thought it would be a much kinder thing if we planned on painting some rocks to return to this special place to give back what we took and more.

With Valentine’s Day being just around the corner it seemed like just the right time of year to call attention to acts of love and kindness, and a great opportunity to invite our families to share in that conversation as well.”
